As a yoga teacher who has had the incredible experience of attending yoga retreats in Mexico, I’m excited to share my experience of hosting a yoga retreat in the vibrant land of Mexico. This beautiful and captivating country offers a rich tapestry of culture, nature, and spirituality, providing the perfect canvas for guiding participants on a journey of self-discovery and transformation.
The first recommendation for hosting your yoga retreat is choosing a location. Ask yourself, “What activities am I trying to share with my participants? What is my audience’s budget? How far away is the destination from where they will be traveling from?” Once you have a general answer for those questions take a look at some of the suggestions below.

After picking a location, it’s time to decide what makes your retreat stand out from all the others. Incorporating extra excursions or classes can enhance the overall experience for your guests. Here are some examples of excursions you could consider adding:
Cenote Exploration – If you’re hosting a retreat in Tulum, Bacalar, or elsewhere in the Yucatan consider taking your participants to explore the stunning cenotes, natural sinkholes filled with crystal-clear freshwater. Cenote visits often include swimming, snorkeling, or simply enjoying the beauty of these unique natural formations. You could even host a yoga or meditation class at a private cenote and then allow your guest to enjoy the fresh water afterwards.
Temazcal Ceremony – Want something more spiritual and cultural to add to your retreat? Consider engaging in a traditional temazcal ceremony, a Mayan sweat lodge ritual that combines physical and spiritual purification. This experience can promote inner healing and offer a deeper connection to ancient traditions.
Outdoor activities like Hiking, Snorkeling, Scuba Diving, etc – Lead a hike on the beach or maybe to nearby waterfalls, providing participants with a chance to connect with nature, engage in outdoor yoga sessions, and refresh in the cool waters. Alternatively, you can go underwater and explore vibrant coral reefs, encounter colorful marine life, and connect with the serene underwater realm.
Pay attention to total costs – Ensure that you are pricing your retreat in a way that allows you to cover all the extra inclusions.
